Leicester City supporters have been pretty subdued in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side draw 0-0 with Southampton last time out, although they are looking forward to their team’s trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Claude Puel’s men have underwhelmed for much of 2018 thus far with just four victories to show from their 17 Premier League matches, a run which has all but ended any slim hope of qualifying for the Europa League. And the Foxes were unable to get back to winning ways last time out in drawing 0-0 at home with Mark Hughes’ Saints, yet two wins from their last three away games does give some of our resident Leicester fans some hope ahead of this weekend’s clash at Roy Hodgson’s Palace.
Thus, there are some optimistic Foxes supporters in the Tavern at present, many of whom are hoping their side can finish the season strongly in a bid to build momentum ahead of a European push next time round.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Leicester fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that West Ham have joined the race for West Brom defender Jonny Evans.
Puel’s Leicester are also thought to be interested in the £13.5 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt), and as such the 30-year-old should forget about the London Stadium as the King Power Stadium seems the perfect place to continue his Premier League career.
Ultimately, West Ham haven’t quite moved forward as many would have expected since their move to the old Olympic Stadium, with the club enduring two relegation-battling campaigns since their move across the capital – there doesn’t appear to be a great deal of stability at the East London club.
As such, it’s plausible that, even if they were to stay up this season, they could again be in a relegation battle next time round, whereas the same cannot be said of Leicester, who look set to establish themselves as one of the best of the rest outside of the top six.
Not only that, but there could well be some big changes at the Midlands outfit this summer, what with title-winning trio Danny Simpson, Wes Morgan, and Christian Fuchs all left on the bench against Southampton last time out, perhaps suggesting that that crop of players could well be replaced this summer.
And given that Robert Huth could well leave the club as well at the expiration of his contract, manager Puel may be short of central defensive options come the start of next season, and that must be of interest to former Manchester United star Evans.
Ultimately, the 30-year-old remains a hugely adept Premier League defender and one Arsenal and Manchester City made moves for a matter of months ago, and as such there is little doubt that he can go into the Foxes backline and improve them next term.
Be it a calmness and composure with the ball at his feet as well as battling aerially with some of the toughest strikers in the league, Evans has it all in his locker, and would certainly be an upgrade on messrs Morgan and Huth, and could well strike up quite the partnership with England international Harry Maguire.
Thus, with West Ham a club very much struggling to get going following their move to the London Stadium, Evans should forget about them and instead make the move to forward-thinking and stable Leicester this summer.
