According to a report from Takvim, Leicester City striker Islam Slimani is attracting interest from Turkish giants Fenerbahce. The 30-year-old fell down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium in the first half of last season, to the point that he was shipped out on loan to fellow Premier League side Newcastle United for the second half of the campaign.
But with things not working out there either, and indeed amid reported interest in his services, Leicester should absolutely get rid of the £16.2 million-rated flop (as per Transfermarkt) this summer.
Ultimately, expectations were high when the Foxes splashed out a club record £28 million on the Algeria international back in 2016, especially given his prolific goal-scoring record of 57 goals in just 111 games for Portuguese heavyweights Sporting Lisbon.
But he has simply been unable to replicate that success in English football in netting only eight Premier League goals for Leicester during his time at the King Power Stadium, with Slimani ultimately finding it hard to regularly dispose the likes of Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki from the main striker’s role.
Add Kelechi Iheanacho to that list, who finished the season reasonably strongly to suggest that he could be destined for a fine campaign this time round, and Slimani simply isn’t going to command regular football at the Midlands outfit.
He had the chance to really prove his worth to manager Claude Puel while on loan at Newcastle in the second half of last season, but injury alongside ill-discipline saw the striker muster just four appearances for the Magpies, failing to net in any of them.
Thus, the 30-year-old simply hasn’t done enough in English football to suggest that he has what it takes to lead the line for Leicester and give Puel another reliable option in the final third of the pitch – messrs Vardy, Okazaki, and Iheanacho undoubtedly offer more.
And with Fenerbahce reportedly keen on the Algerian ace, Leicester absolutely must get rid of the striker this summer.
