Leicester City supporters have been drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team thumped 5-0 by relegation-threatened Crystal Palace on Saturday to increase the pressure on manager Claude Puel.
The Foxes went into their clash with the Eagles having failed to win any of their preceding three league games, a run which all but ended their hopes of overthrowing Burnley to finish seventh and thus earn Europa League football. And those dreams are now in complete tatters as goals from Wilfried Zaha, James McArthur, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Patrick van Aanholt, and Christian Benteke sealed a comprehensive victory for Roy Hodgson’s side, thus leaving Leicester ninth in the division.
Subsequently, there have been many despondent and angry Leicester supporters in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are beginning to turn on manager Puel after seeing their team win just four of their last 18 Premier League matches.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Foxes fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking their club with a move for Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan.
And were the Midlands outfit to indeed seal a deal for the £1.8 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) this summer, it could well enhance their top six credentials ahead of the 2018/19 season.
Ultimately, the 23-year-old winger has enjoyed a fine stint on loan at Turkish top-flight side Kasimpasa this term, having netted a seriously impressive 14 goals and laid on five assists in 31 appearances for the club, 11 goals and four assists of which coming in their run to ninth place in the Super Lig.
Thus, the Egypt international has certainly proven his worth this term and appears to have an extremely bright future in the game, and with the ability to play down either wing, and indeed capabilities both in front of goal and in creating chances, he could seriously bolster Puel’s attacking ranks at the King Power Stadium.
Star man Riyad Mahrez is again likely to be subject of speculation this summer after seeing a move to Manchester City fall through back in January, and were he to leave it would leave a gaping hole in the creative ranks which would simply need filling.
Add in the struggles for consistency of Demarai Gray and January signing Fousseni Diabate, and it’s clear that if Leicester are serious about challenging the top six next season, they have to reinforce the attacking department – Hassan’s arrival could do just that.
Yes, there will be doubts over his capabilities in England having never played in the Premier League before, but at the tender age of 23 and off the back of his best season of his career to date, he’ll be full of confidence and surely ready to prove himself in the top tier.
As such, with Leicester’s winger ranks not quite producing the goods this season and potentially to be weakened over the summer were Mahrez to leave, the Foxes must seek to lure the exciting Hassan to the King Power Stadium.
Doing so may even enhance their top six credentials heading into the new season.
