Leicester City: Chelsea could splash Eden Hazard cash on Ben Chilwell

Leicester City youngster Ben Chilwell could be subject to the interest of Chelsea in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Sun have reported that if Chelsea can get their double-window transfer ban lifted, they could go after the 22-year-old as early as January – as well as other players Wilfried Zaha and Timo Werner.

A kitty of £150m is allegedly going to be available to Frank Lampard if the Court of Arbitration for Sport accept the Blues’ appeal – which is set to be heard on November 20.

The report states that the cash generated from Eden Hazard is ready to be spent back in the squad, with Ben Chilwell being towards the top of the wishlist.

Considering the strength of Leicester and the form they are in at the moment, it would be a huge shock to see Chilwell leave the club in January.

The left-back came through the academy at Leicester, so will naturally have an affection for the club and want to make the most of them doing so well. Not only that, but he is in great form for his home club. He has scored his first professional goal, provided three assists and has a meaty average match rating of 7.19 (WhoScored) from his nine games; it is fair to say he’s having a great time under Brendan Rodgers.

Furthermore, Leicester are likely to demand an astronomical fee as they really have no need to sell the full-back considering just how they much held out for in the deal for Harry Maguire, and it would also be to a direct rival.

Logistically, the deal doesn’t necessarily make the most amount of sense. Chelsea have fairly decent depth in that position with Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso to choose from, so it would be unlikely to see it happen before one is sold.

Ben Chilwell leaving Leicester would be a huge shock in January considering how well Leicester are doing at this stage.

The club have 23 points from 11 games and are the second top goalscorers in the league while also being the team which has conceded the joint-least amount of goals. They have a manager who is clearly making everything work and it would just be bizarre to see this Leicester team taken apart before it has even had the chance to finish a full season.
