Leicester City face stiff competition Wolves, Liverpool and Manchester United for the signing of Brighton defender Ben White.
The centre-half is currently on loan at Leeds from the club on the south coast and has been making a name for himself in Yorkshire as Marcelo Bielsa’s side boast one of the best defences in the league.
With the Whites flying high in the Championship, much of the thanks needs to go to the centre back pairing of Ben White and Liam Cooper. With the loss of Pontus Jansson in the summer, it wasn’t going to be easy to replace the Swede, yet the youngster has done it seamlessly.
With White receiving many plaudits, his statistics seem to back him up too. He hasn’t missed a minute of this campaign so far this season and only one player has a higher average rating than him (7.25), according to WhoScored, and that’s Kalvin Phillips (7.41).
With Jonny Evans now approaching 32, a long term successor could be needed at the King Power, even if he is having a terrific season.
The numbers are short in defence, and even though Evans and Caglar Soyuncu haven’t missed a moment of this campaign, there could be panic amongst the side if one was to get injured with only an ageing Wes Morgan on the bench and a rather inexperienced Filip Benkovic.
White could help add valuable depth to that squad and also learn from Evans with a view to potentially being his successor.
