As reported by BBC Sport amongst other publications, Danny Drinkwater has been charged with violent conduct by the FA with our resident Leicester City fans thinking it’s a bit of a foregone conclusion here in the Transfer Tavern.
The charge relates to an incident that went unseen by the officials in the Foxes 2-1 defeat away at Watford last weekend in which the midfielder appeared to elbow Hornets man Valon Behrami amid close marking from the Swiss international.
The England international looked to have swung out his elbow to swat away the attentions of his opponent and duly caught him flush in the face, leaving Behrami sprawled on the floor but no foul was given as the flashpoint appeared to go unnoticed.
Nevertheless, it was recorded by the TV cameras and now the Leicester man has until 6pm this evening to respond to the charge and will face a ban if guilty.
Certainly, our local Foxes fans think there is no point in trying to kid themselves he won’t get a ban as the evidence looked pretty conclusive from what they saw.
A prospective ban for Drinkwater would come as a real blow for Leicester as they try to get their campaign back on track with them currently 14th in the league.
