Leicester City are responsible for one of the best fairytale stories in Premier League history having famously won the crown with Claudio Ranieri at the helm in the season of 2015/16.
Of course, prior to that, the Foxes had a mixed time of things after being relegated from the top flight in 2004 and when you look at the team now under Brendan Rodgers, it’s a far cry from some of the problems they endured between 2005 and 2014.
Indeed, back in 2008/09 they even had to spend some time down in the third tier of English football, having been relegated to League One the previous season. Still, while it may have seemed like a long way off at the time, that year would turn out to be a start of a truly brilliant story of a glorious comeback back to the top and then, eventually, to the throne of the Premier League.
And club legend Gary Lineker was quick to recognise that effort and praise it on his Twitter profile, saying it’s still quite difficult to fathom the sheer size of that achievement – from the third tier to Premier League champions in a relatively short span.
Quite impressive, to say the least.
7 years later: Premier League champions. Still find it hard to believe. https://t.co/gGVGKcQcU6
