Leicester City are targeting Nathan Ake and James Tarkowski, of AFC Bournemouth and Burnley respectively, for the January transfer window, as reported by The Telegraph.
The Foxes sold Harry Maguire three days before the summer transfer window deadline, meaning they were unable to effectively spend the £80m received, though Brendan Rodgers and his scouting team have since identified the Premier League duo to splash out on.
Ake has started every one of the Cherries’ 9 Premier League games so far this season, getting 1 goal and 1 assist, as per WhoScored.
During that time, the Dutchman has averaged 1.3 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, 4.1 clearances and 1 block per game, with Bournemouth having conceded 13 goals, keeping 1 clean sheet.
Tarkowski has also started 9 league games, providing no goals or assists, but he has averaged 1.9 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 5.1 clearances and 1.1 blocks per game, as Burnley have gone on to concede 11 goals, keeping 3 clean sheets.
One aspect that could also play a part in Leicester’s decision-making process is that Ake is 24-years-old, while Tarkowski is 26.
Either defender would be a brilliant acquisition for Leicester, adding to what has already been the third-best defence in the league this season, behind Liverpool and Sheffield United.
Brendan Rodgers’ side is looking in great shape to make a sustained challenge for the top four, adding either player would only enhance that.
Will Leicester City finish the season in the top six?
