Leicester must land this linked-away £10.8m-rated ace to mount European charge next season

Leicester City supporters have been pretty despondent in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team suffer a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Crystal Palace on Saturday to extend their winless Premier League streak to four matches.

Claude Puel’s men went into their clash at Selhurst Park having drawn one and lost the other two of their preceding three league matches, a run of form which all but ended their slim Europa League qualification hopes. And those dreams are now well and truly in tatters as goals from Wilfried Zaha, James McArthur, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Patrick van Aanholt, and Christian Benteke secured a comprehensive success for Roy Hodgson’s side, thus leaving Puel’s Foxes ninth in the Premier League with three games to play.

As such, there have been many disappointed and angry Leicester supporters in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are growing increasingly frustrated with manager Puel, what with their club winning only four times since the turn of the year.

In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Foxes fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports over the weekend that midfielder Marouane Fellaini has turned down a new contract at Manchester United.

And with Puel’s Leicester one side reportedly keen on the £10.8 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt), the 2016 league champions must seek to bring him to the King Power Stadium if they are to mount a European challenge next season.

Ultimately, the Belgium international has struggled for regular football under Jose Mourinho this season, with just four Premier League starts to show for his efforts so far.

And with only two starts in other competitions for the Red Devils this term, it’s clear that the 30-year-old is way down the pecking order at Old Trafford, although his winning goal in the 2-1 success over Arsenal on Sunday further underlined his prowess at Premier League level.

In fact, that was Fellaini’s fourth Premier League goal of the season for United, and that alongside his fine efforts for Everton a few years back is why Leicester must seek to lure him to the King Power Stadium.

The 30-year-old was absolutely outstanding for Everton during his final season at the club in 2012/13, in which he scored 11 goals and laid on six assists to prompt David Moyes to re-sign him when he moved to Old Trafford that summer.

In fact, he was comfortably one of the best attackers in the Premier League that season, be it aerially dominating in the opposition box or even with the ball at his feet, and there’s little doubt that he’d add a great deal to Puel’s midfield at Leicester.

The Frenchman appears to be searching for a solution to his number ten conundrum having tried different players in that position in recent weeks, and while Fellaini maybe hasn’t played there for a while, he could be an option.

Alternatively, the Belgian ace has performed well in a slightly deeper midfield role for United in the last few years – clearly, he could do a job anywhere in the middle of the park, and at the same time add a great deal of aerial strength and dominance to the Foxes midfield.

As such, the Midlands outfit must seek to make a move for the linked-away midfielder this summer, as doing so could see them mount a European charge next season.
