According to a report from The Daily Mail, Manchester United are eyeing up a £50 million deal for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. The 25-year-old has excelled with England at this summer’s World Cup to significantly raise his stock, and after a fine debut season at the King Power Stadium, it seems that the centre back could be destined for even better things in the near future.

And were Claude Puel’s Foxes to indeed lose the Englishman this summer, they must seek to replace him with another one in the form of Newcastle United lynchpin Jamaal Lascelles, valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, 25-year-old Maguire was Leicester’s best player for the vast majority of last season in playing in all 38 of their Premier League games over the course of the campaign, eventually earning the club’s Player of the Season award for his endeavours.

And the former Hull City man certainly proved his worth both defensively but also with the ball at his feet, thus earning a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup, from which he started five of their six games en route to the semi-finals.

Thus, Leicester could seriously struggle to keep hold of the defender this summer, which is why Puel must be prepared by making a move for Newcastle captain Lascelles as a possible replacement.

The 24-year-old was absolutely magnificent for the Magpies in helping them to a tenth place finish upon their return to the Premier League last season, with the centre back missing just five games over the course of the campaign, all of which as a result of injury.

Be it scoring key goals at one end to making last-ditch blocks and clearances in his own box, Lascelles has proven to be a hugely adept centre back at Premier League level, and at the tender age of 24, he looks set for a huge future in the game.

Arguably, the Magpies defender was unlucky to miss out on an England cap this season such were his efforts for the North East giants, but with Leicester facing the prospect of losing Maguire this summer, they must be readying a replacement in the form of the 24-year-old.
