Leicester City supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating their team’s trip to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday, what with the Foxes seeking to get back to winning ways after losing in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last time out.
Claude Puel’s men put up a brave fight against Premier League champions Chelsea at the King Power Stadium in their last eight tie two weeks ago, but goals from Alvaro Morata and Pedro either side of a Jamie Vardy equaliser condemned the Midlands outfit to a second quarter-final defeat of the season, having lost to Manchester City at the same stage in the Carabao Cup. Nonetheless, Puel’s side and the club’s supporters are now purely focused on getting back to winning ways in the league, starting at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday.
As such, there are many excited Leicester supporters in the Tavern at present, several of whom are optimistic about their side’s chances on the South Coast on Saturday, what with their team having lost just one of their last five league games.
Yet several of our resident Foxes fans are already looking ahead to the summer and what business their side may look to do, with many of the opinion that they should go after West Brom’s Kieran Gibbs if the Baggies get relegated.
The 28-year-old made the move to the Hawthorns back in the summer after struggling for regular gametime at Arsenal, and while he has certainly got more gametime in the Midlands, it looks as though he will be part of a side heading to the Championship next season.
However, Leicester themselves are somewhat struggling in the left back department this season, what with Ben Chilwell not overly convincing when called upon, while Christian Fuchs certainly hasn’t hit the heights he produced in their title-winning campaign of a few years ago.
Thus, if the Foxes are seeking to bridge the gap on the top six next season and thus push for European football, they have to solve issues like that in their squad, and while Gibbs is part of a West Brom on their way down, he still remains a hugely adept left back at Premier League level.
After all, the 28-year-old has ten England caps to his name and looked set to go on and nail down a regular place in the national team squad, so he is clearly a very fine player, and has seemingly been one of a few bright sparks in a desperately disappointing campaign for the Baggies this term.
As such, with Leicester appearing in need of reinforcements in the left back area, they must seek to make a move for £7.2 million-rated Gibbs (as per Transfermarkt) if West Brom go down this season.
