Leicester City supporters have been somewhat disappointed in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side come out on the receiving end of a nine-goal thriller at Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.
Claude Puel’s men were looking to finish the season on a high following victory over Arsenal a few days earlier, and at 3-1 up just a few minutes into the second half, it looked like they were going to do just that. However, Spurs staged a fantastic comeback to eventually edge past the Foxes 5-4 at Wembley on Sunday, thus condemning the Midlands outfit to a 15th Premier League loss of the campaign.
As such, there have been some frustrated Leicester fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are turning their attentions towards the summer transfer window, and as such will be interested by recent reports suggesting that a deal is close to bring Ricardo Pereira to the club.
And with a deal for the right back seemingly imminent, the Foxes must now land £13.5 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) Jonny Evans in a bid to further bolster their backline.
Ultimately, while part of a West Brom side that lost their Premier League status this season, the 30-year-old was a rare shining light in an otherwise disastrous campaign for the Baggies, appearing in 28 Premier League matches and bagging two goals along the way.
And given his impressive efforts in the heart of their backline, pretty much ever since he joined them from Manchester United back in 2015, the Northern Ireland international has continued to prove his worth as a Premier League defender, to the point that both Arsenal and Manchester City were interested in signing him back in January.
And what with the Foxes shipping 60 goals in the league this season, more than any other side in the top half of the division, it’s clear that reinforcements of that ilk are needed in Puel’s backline.
Captain Wes Morgan, instrumental in their title-winning campaign back in 2016, hasn’t been at the level this season, while the other part of that duo that led Claudio Ranieri’s side to the league crown, Robert Huth, has left the club at the expiration of his contract.
And with uncertainty over a permanent deal for Aleksandar Dragovic, alongside rumours of a move away for fellow centre back Harry Maguire, it could be all change at the back for Leicester this summer, which is why a calming and experienced professional like Evans wouldn’t go amiss.
What’s more, West Brom’s relegation means that the 30-year-old is available for just £3 million which, given he was touted for a move to Arsenal and Man City only a few months ago, represents incredible value for money.
