Premier League clubs have generally had a mixed time when it comes to signing players from Asia.
On the one hand you have players like Park Ji-Sung, who was a valuable part of United’s trophy-laden side between 2005 and 2012 and won the Old Trafford faithful over with his tireless work-rate and important goals.
This season Son Heung-Min has been wowing Spurs fans here in the Transfer Tavern with some electric performances and extravagant goals, while Ki Sung-Yeung has performed consistently for Swansea City for a number of seasons.
For every Park Ji Sung on Son Heung-Min however, there are also players like Dong Fangzhou and Park Chu-Young; players who never establish themselves and are often nothing more than a burden on their club’s wage bill.
One club that had success last season was Leicester City.
The Foxes signed Shinji Okazaki, and the Japanese striker was an instant fan favourite for his tireless harassing of defenders, which proved vital in Ranieri’s title charge.
