Leeds United’s steady start to the Championship continued at the weekend, with a thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Blackburn Rovers. Whilst elsewhere Blackpool’s 100% record was wiped off and Pride Park saw the thrashing of Watford.
Leeds United found themselves 2-0 down after just 27 minutes on Saturday to Blackburn Rovers, with goals from Markus Olsson and Nuno Gomes. El Hadji Diouf managed to pull a goal back for Leeds just before the break, making for an interesting second half.
Leeds United came out in the second half all guns blazing and after a fine finish from Ross McCormack, had pulled it back to 2-2 in the 56th minute. Feeling the momentum building, nine minutes later Luciano Becchio headed home and Leeds United were now 3-2 up.
Jason Pearce thought he had wrapped the points up for Leeds after scoring from close range, only for the villain of the day to wipe off his efforts after suggesting there was a push.
Heading into the final 10 minutes, Leeds were still ahead, that was until a dodgy decision to award Blackburn a free kick, ended in Ruben Rochina cheekily scoring with his heel to make it 3-3.
El Hadji Diouf missed a guilt edge chance in the 95th minute to cap off a roller coaster of a game. However, it was not to be and a very decent point was awarded to two good attacking sides.
Elsewhere, Millwall picked up their first home win of the season, with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough. Derby County thrashed Watford 5-1 at Pride Park leaving Gianfranco Zola apologetic towards the fans afterwards. Blackpool lost their 100% start to the season with a 1-0 defeat at Leicester City, while Birmingham picked up their first victory of the season with a 1-0 win over struggling Peterborough United.
