Leicester City supporters have been significantly more upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their team get back to winning ways courtesy of an emphatic 3-1 victory over Arsenal on Wednesday night.
Claude Puel’s men went into their clash with the Gunners having lost four of their preceding five league games, and having failed to win at the King Power Stadium since their 2-0 success over Watford back in January. Yet the Foxes produced a fine display on Wednesday with goals from Kelechi Iheanacho, Jamie Vardy, and Riyad Mahrez sealing a deserved win for the Midlands giants, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s second half equaliser all Arsene Wenger’s side had to cheer on a disappointing night for the North London giants.
Regardless, there have been many thrilled Leicester fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their side can finish the season strongly with victory away at Tottenham on Sunday in their final match of the campaign.
Yet several of our resident Foxes supporters are already looking ahead to the summer and what business their side may seek to conduct, with the left back department seemingly a worry for many heading into the 2018/19 campaign.
And that is why many are calling for their club to go after Liverpool’s £10.8 million-rated star Alberto Moreno (as per Transfermarkt) this summer in a bid to bolster those ranks.
Ultimately, the 25-year-old lost his place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven back in December due to injury, and he has since been unable to reclaim it such have been the consistently impressive efforts of Andrew Robertson – Moreno has appeared just four times in the Premier League in 2018.
And with Robertson seemingly going from strength to strength and looking more and more like Klopp’s first-choice in that position, Moreno is facing a crucial summer – this all after the 2016/17 campaign in which midfielder James Milner was ahead of him in the pecking order.
And a move to Leicester could be exactly what he needs to get his career going again, with the Foxes themselves somewhat struggling in the left back department.
Ben Chilwell has been given the nod more often than not by Puel in recent times but hasn’t always convinced our resident Foxes fans, and with title-winning left back Christian Fuchs set to leave in the summer of 2019, they need to solve their troubles in that department fast.
And while Moreno hasn’t always convinced himself during his time at Liverpool, he started this season well to suggest that he is an adept left back at Premier League level, and one that appears to benefit greatly from regular first team football and striking up a relationship with his fellow defenders.
The Spain international started 12 of Liverpool’s opening 14 league games this term and helped Klopp’s side to five clean sheets along the way, with vastly improved displays earning rave reviews from some Liverpudlians in the Tavern, at the same time keeping summer signing Robertson out of the side.
Yes, some aspects of Moreno’s game, more defensively than offensively, need improving, but the age of 25 and under the guidance of Puel, a manager renowned for compiling tight defensive units, he could flourish, and as such solve their evident left back troubles heading into the 2018/19 season.
