Leicester City supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side only muster a 0-0 draw against Southampton last time out, giving them little confidence ahead of their team’s trip to Crystal Palace this weekend.
Claude Puel’s men have endured a testing 2018 in winning just four of their 17 Premier League games they have played, a run which has seen their chances of qualifying for the Europa League all but come to an end. And they were unable to get back to winning ways last time out either in drawing with Mark Hughes’ struggling Saints, and as such there isn’t a great deal of optimism among Foxes fans in the Tavern ahead of their clash with Roy Hodgson’s Palace on Saturday.
Thus, several of our resident Leicester fans aren’t looking forward to Saturday’s trip to Selhurst Park such have been their side’s disappointing recent form, yet two wins from their last three away games may give them some hope ahead of this weekend’s encounter.
Nevertheless, some of those Foxes supporters lining up at the bar are already thinking about the summer transfer window and what business their side may seek to complete, with many of the opinion that £9 million-rated (as per Transfermarkt) Tottenham flop Vincent Janssen should seek to reignite his Premier League career by moving to the King Power Stadium.
Ultimately, things just haven’t worked out for the 23-year-old since his move to North London back in 2016, with just two Premier League goals to show for his endeavours last season, only one of which came from open play.
In fact, manager Mauricio Pochettino was happy to sanction his departure to Fenerbahce on loan at the start of this season given his ineffectiveness for Spurs last term, and that itself throws into doubt whether he indeed has a future at the North London outfit.
However, one mustn’t forget that the Netherlands international clearly has ability having netted 31 goals in just 49 games for AZ in the 2015/16 season – thus it’s evident that Janssen is capable of scoring goals, and may just need more time to adapt to the English game before he finds his best form once again.
And a move to Leicester could well help him with that process.
Ultimately, he is never going to get ahead of Harry Kane at Tottenham unless the Englishman gets injured or suspended, but even if that were to happen, it wouldn’t give the 23-year-old the sort of gametime required to quickly and efficiently adapt to the rigours of the division.
However, other than Jamie Vardy at Leicester, Puel doesn’t have overly reliable striking options, with Kelechi Iheanacho struggling to impose himself since his move from Manchester City last summer, while Shinji Okazaki is a great player to have in one’s squad, but he isn’t going to get the goals required.
As such, there could be an opening for Janssen to stake a claim for more regular first team football at Leicester as opposed to Tottenham, and a fresh start somewhere else could give him the confidence and belief to re-discover his best form.
Thus, with his Spurs stint seemingly going nowhere, the 23-year-old should seek to reignite his Premier League career by moving to Leicester this summer.
