This article forms part of our Valuation Evaluation feature series, which is where Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at the increase or decrease of a player’s Transfermarkt valuation and whether it is justified or not.
Amid what is proving to be a very successful season for Leicester City, Wilfred Ndidi’s stock is continuing to rise.
Having been valued at £31.5m last summer, according to Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old is now worth £40.5m. And you would have to say that the increase in valuation has been a fair one given how well he has performed this campaign.
In Brendan Rodgers’ side, Ndidi has truly given the likes of Jamie Vardy, Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes the platform to thrive. Simply put, the Nigerian midfielder has provided the team with cover while the attackers go forward with confidence, assured that the man behind them is ready to step in at any turnover.
As per WhoScored, Ndidi is currently averaging four tackles per game, an average only Ricardo Pereira (4.3) can top in the Foxes’ squad. He is also averaging 2.6 interceptions a match, the most in his team, further evidence of the security he is adding to midfield.
How much is Wilfred Ndidi worth?
£40m or more
Less than £40m
Before him, it was N’Golo Kante who was winning the plaudits for his tackling ability and reading of the game, averaging incredible per-game averages of 4.7 and 4.2 for tackles and interceptions respectively during that 2015/16 Premier League title-winning campaign. Following his departure to Chelsea, it all started to go downhill, with Leicester finishing the next season in 12th as the Frenchman claimed the title again.
Sell Ndidi in the summer, who was said to be of interest to Arsenal back in December, and there could be similar ramifications.
