According to a recent report from The Liverpool Echo, Leicester City are one side interested in a summer move for Yannick Bolasie. The 29-year-old only returned from a year out with injury back in December but then failed to re-discover his best form for Everton as the season wore on, eventually ending the campaign with just one goal to show for his 16 Premier League appearances.

And speculation has been building regarding the £16.2 million-rated (as per Transfermarkt) star’s future at Goodison Park, with Leicester one side keen on a move, in what could prove to be a transfer masterstroke.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, Claude Puel’s side will be on the lookout for a perfect replacement for Riyad Mahrez this summer, what with the Algeria international sealing a £60 million move to Manchester City earlier in the close season.

Thus, the Foxes have lost arguably their most influential player and the one they often turned to in a bid to make something happen out of nothing, and finding another player of that ilk will surely be crucial to Puel and indeed the club’s hierarchy this summer - Bolasie could be that man.

Yes, the DR Congo international failed to deliver in the second half of last season, but he can be forgiven somewhat given he spent a year out with injury prior to his return in December, and before then he looked the part at Everton in netting once and laying on four assists in 13 games before sustaining the injury against Manchester United.

But it was his impressive spell at Crystal Palace which earned him the move to Goodison Park back in the summer of 2016, and it’s his time at Selhurst Park in particular which must be of interest to Leicester as they seek the perfect Mahrez replacement.

Bolasie may well have only scored 13 goals in 144 appearances for the Eagles, but he laid on a mightily impressive 44 assists during his time in the capital to underline just how effective he can be in the creative positions, with his pace and trickery in particular able to completely transform a game.

And this ability to produce moments of magic out of very little is exactly what Leicester will miss the most from Mahrez’s departure, yet they could get a great deal of that back were they to land Bolasie this summer.

As such, the addition of the winger could well turn out to be a Leicester transfer masterstroke.
