Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team have worked hard this summer to ensure that they have the best possible preparation for the new season. Some big names have moved to Anfield, and some key squad gaps have been plugged. Naturally, then, fans will likely be eager to see what sort of impact their side is going to make over the course of the next year.

It's definitely fair to say that Liverpool are in a better position than they were last year, and with a solid year of impressive form, Jurgen Klopp is well placed to make an impact next season.

However, with just under two weeks to go until the transfer window slams shut, could any more business be done?

That remains to be seen, but one area that is lacking quality is the defence, particularly in the middle. Virgil van Dijk is solid, and Dejan Lovren is decent on his day - but have Liverpool really got the defensive players to rival Chelsea or Man City?

The answer to that question is arguably a firm no, and so some attention is needed here from Jurgen Klopp. In an ideal world, he'd bring in a top-class central defender this summer before the window closes - and he'd struggle to do better than Jamaal Lascelles of Newcastle.

Lascelles has made waves over the last year or so for his remarkable rise for Newcastle. He's the captain of the Magpies, and that's with good reason. Beyond the quality of his play, he's a fantastic leader, and he'll often be seen barking orders and demanding more from his teammates. Despite being just 24-years-old, he's a commanding force at the back - and that's just what Liverpool need.

Naturally, though, his main asset comes in the form of his quality. Lascelles is strong and powerful, and in the air he's a real threat both defensively and offensively. He's also comfortable with the ball at his feet, and given Jurgen Klopp's technical style, he'd be right at home in that sense.

Not to mention, Lascelles is also homegrown, and that's a valuable trait that Liverpool have made the most of in recent years. He'd join a core of homegrown talent that have been so successful at Anfield in recent years.

He'd be expensive, but what a signing Lascelles would be.
