Tottenham supporters have been reasonably frustrated in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side only muster a 1-1 draw away at Southampton on Sunday, thus seeing them miss the chance to move above Liverpool in the Premier League table.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the struggling Saints having won four of their preceding five league matches, alongside a routine success over AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the FA Cup. However, Spurs weren’t quite at it at St Mary’s on Sunday, with Davinson Sanchez’s own goal giving Mauricio Pellegrino’s side a 15th minute lead, and although Harry Kane equalised just three minutes later, the visitors didn’t do enough to bag the all important winner and thus return to North London with all three points.
Subsequently, there have been some deflated Tottenham fans in the Tavern this week, although their mood is likely to be improved by a recent report from The Times, which suggests that chairman Daniel Levy has held ‘talks’ with Paris Saint-Germain winger Lucas Moura over a possible move to the club.
The 25-year-old has been at the Parc des Princes since 2013 and has played a big part in their dominance of French football over the years, helping them to four successive Ligue 1 titles prior to last season.
However, the Brazil international has appeared just five times in the league under manager Unai Emery this season and as such has been attracting interest this month, with Tottenham one side reportedly keen on the talented winger.
And recent reports suggest that chairman Levy ‘met’ with the Brazilian on Thursday over a potential move to Pochettino’s side, as the North London side seek to bolster their ranks ahead of a Champions League push in the second half of the season.
And while a deal is not yet done, it is looking increasingly promising that Moura will make the move to Tottenham this month.
Landlord’s verdict: Lucas Moura has only appeared five times in Ligue 1 for Paris Saint-Germain this season, a lack of gametime that was always going to attract interest from across Europe this month.
And that certainly has happened as both Manchester United and Tottenham have reportedly expressed an interest in the 25-year-old, but it is the latter who appear to be edging closer to a move for the Brazil international following potentially huge developments on Thursday.
And that’s because chairman Daniel Levy held ‘talks’ with the winger regarding a possible move to the North London club, a deal which could reportedly cost Spurs £22 million.
But given the quality Moura would bring to the Tottenham squad, they could well reap the rewards from such purchase in the years to come.
