The Tottenham fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still getting excited over the prospect of welcoming Chelsea to Wembley Stadium for their first ‘home’ game of the season, however, they may not have to wait until August to get one over on their London rivals.
According to reports from El Confidencial in Spain, the north Londoners – who will move from White Hart Lane to the national stadium for the coming season as developments continue on their new home – are considering a move for wantaway Real Madrid playmaker, James Rodriguez.
The 25-year-old, who has grown frustrated under the guise of Zinedine Zidane in the Spanish capital, is looking for a way out this summer and has been heavily linked with a move to join Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, as well as a mooted switch to Manchester United.
Whilst the reports suggest that there could be a battle between the London rivals, who met in last season’s FA Cup semi-final which saw Chelsea walk away 4-2 victors, it also claims that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is unwilling to pay anything near the €75m fee which the back-to-back Champions League winners are so ardent on receiving.
Spurs fans, we want to hear from you! Could Levy pull this one off and land Rodriguez ahead of Chelsea? Let us know in the comments below…
