The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Daniel Levy will get the cheque book out in a bid to land at least one marque signing this summer ahead of the new stadium move.

The Breakdown

After nearly a decade of planning, speculation, and constructing, Tottenham's new stadium will finally be built and ready for use this year as the club continue to lay the foundations of an incredibly bright future in North London. The move into the new stadium has the potential to represent Tottenham's final step in establishing themselves as one of England's top-four clubs.

But the move into the stadium itself is not enough to guarantee success and Levy will need to break tradition by splashing the cash on top players in the years to come to ensure that Spurs remain competitive.

And according to recent reports from Sky Italia (via talkSPORT), it seems that the notoriously tight-fisted owner has recognised that fact and begun to make inroads on a transfer which supporters would certainly be cooing over this summer.

The report claims that both Tottenham and Chelsea have made enquiries to sign Mateo Kovacic whilst the Croatia midfielder is currently on international duty with his national side in Russia.

Tottenham's interest is certainly well-placed based on his ability and willingness to consider a move away from the club.

Kovacic (valued at £27 million by Transfermarkt) openly discussed his personal feelings regarding the situation he currently finds himself in at Real Madrid and explicitly stated that a move away from the club would be the wisest move for his career during an interview with Spanish media outlet Marca - a hugely encouraging sign for the Lilywhites.

Providing Los Blancos are willing to be reasonable with their asking price for Kovacic, Levy should do everything in his power to finance a deal for the 24-year-old this summer as he possesses a raw level of potential which is almost unrivalled in world football.

At the heart of midfield Kovacic has just about everything you could ask for from a box-to-box midfielder: a lung-bursting engine, technical quality in abundance, composure in possession, quick-witted vision and a tenacious attitude which enables him to carefully balance both his attacking and defensive responsibilities.

With Mousa Dembele seemingly on his way out of Tottenham, Kovacic would provide Mauricio Pochettino with a midfield talent of immense quality whom would undoubtedly get supporters out of their seats at the new stadium next season.

On top of all this, Kovacic is a man with a point to prove after failing to break into the first-team at Real Madrid, so the club can rest easy in the knowledge they would be acquiring the services of a player who possesses the determination to ensure the full extent of his ability eventually shines through.
