Levy thoughts on potential Tottenham deal revealed – Report

Tottenham fans here in the Tavern are looking to cement a Champions League spot for next season, after Sunday’s win at Selhurst Park put them in a promising position.

Spurs have been sensational under Mauricio Pochettino so far this season, as the Argentine’s legacy in North London continues to deliver incredible results for the Lilywhites. Although, it appears that Daniel Levy is the man pulling out all the stops ahead of the summer transfer window, as according to reports in the Independent, Levy is reluctant to sell Toby Alderweireld to Manchester United after receiving interest.

The Belgian’s contract runs out in 2020 but has a clause that will allow him to leave for £25 million in summer 2019 if no new deal is agreed. And, talks surrounding a new contract have hit deadlock, with a considerable difference in position on wages, as doubts begin to filter in about whether an agreement will be reached.

Indeed, Spurs suffered another setback after sources close to the situation maintained that Alderweireld’s representatives see Virgil Van Dijk’s deal as setting a new baseline, and that they would want a deal close to his £180,000 a week salary. Of course, this is something that Spurs will be unwilling to meet, after already struggling to come to terms with the current needs of the defender.

But, one positive to take out of the situation is the fact that Manchester United’s interest in the Belgian is set to be overlooked, as it’s understood that Daniel Levy is reluctant to deal with the Red Devils.

Landlord’s Verdict:

This is worrying times for Spurs after reaching a stalemate in talks over a new contract for Toby Alderweireld, and they’ll hope to resume negotiations as soon as possible to avoid selling for a low price. Although, Levy’s reluctance to sell to Manchester United can be seen as a sensible choice, with Spurs not wanting to strengthen any of their Premier League rivals. But, with Alderweireld’s representatives wanting similar wages to the Van Dijk deal, this could be a huge problem in reaching a future agreement.
