‘Levy’d yet again’ – Tottenham fans fume over potential deal with PL rival

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are resigned to losing Toby Alderweireld this summer as speculation over his future continues to loom large at the club, but recent reports regarding a potential swap deal have provoked genuine cause for concern.

After spending the majority of the season sidelined through injury, Alderweireld struggled to work his way back into Pochettino’s first-team plans towards the end of last season.

However, if rumours are to be believed, a lack of match fitness was not the only reason which forced the Belgium international to remain on the sidelines as a breakdown in negotiations over a new contract were also widely cited as a reason for his absence.

Various stories which have linked Alderweireld with a move away from North London have ensued ever since, and the latest report to emerge has been met with discotnent by a section of the Lilywhites faithful.

According to Turkish media outlet Tribun DergiTottenham are set to swap Alderweireld for Manchester United’s Anthony Martial this summer and, in response to the news, the supporters were a long way from reaching a consensus on the merits of a  potential deal.

Plenty of supporters appear to be unhappy about the prospect of selling Alderweireld to a Premier League rival in exchange for a player who is yet to prove himself on a consistent basis in the top-flight.

But Daniel Levy is a pragmatic negotiator with a shrewd eye for a financially beneficial deal and, considering there is a 7-year age gap between the two players, the swap deal could eventually force the sceptical supporters to eat their words.

Here’s what the Tottenham fans have had to say in response to reports regarding a swap deal involving Alderweireld and Martial…
