Manchester City are rumoured to be lining up a surprise move for Jermain Defoe in the summer, as a replacement for the out going Carlos Tevez. The Argentinean striker is set to leave in the summer to be nearer to his family, after numerous fall outs with manager Roberto Mancini.
The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham will however ask for Craig Bellamy as part of any package that takes Jermain Defoe to Manchester City.
Perhaps City have the financial fair play rules in the back of their mind with Defoe a seemingly cheaper option than the lavish targets they have been linked with in recent months. If City are able to qualify for the Champions League then their spending will have to be significantly reduced and the club has to break even if they want to play in the competition.
The England international has had a frustrated season at Spurs this year. He has struggled this season with a lack of starts due to injury and he has struggled to find goals, with just two in the Premier League this season and they only came last week against Wolves, it is rumoured he is prepared to quit White Hart Lane for a fresh start.
Bellamy is a player that Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has often admired and one that he has previously tried to bring to North London. However, it would still be a curious signing should it happen as he will be 32 by the time next season kicks off, his wages could also prove a stumbling block as Spurs are well known to have a strict wage budget.
