Levy’s pursuit of playmaker could be successful following Liverpool’s potential January departure

The resident Reds in the Transfer Tavern are starting to really enjoy life under Jurgen Klopp this season.

Liverpool have begun to show what a dangerous side they can be in recent weeks with a series of sublime attacking displays. Jurgen Klopp’s side came in for plenty of criticism in the early weeks of the season for some questionable defensive performances, but they have demonstrated a remarkable improvement of late, despite a number of injury problems in their back-line. Now that Liverpool appear to have stamped out their defensive frailties, they should be looking to climb the table and cement their place in the top-four throughout the hectic winter schedule.

However, Liverpool could be set for a mid-season sucker punch in the January window, if reports in Correire dello Sport linking Emre Can with a move to Real Madrid prove to be true.

Emre Can’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season, which means the German international will be available to speak to clubs from outside of the Premier League regarding a free transfer from January 1st.

The news will not be greeted with enthusiasm by the resident Kopites in the tavern, but it has given the Tottenham Hotspur supporters plenty of encouragement for their own transfer ambitions.

Recent reports in The Sun claim that Spurs are lining up a move for Madrid’s 21-year-old Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos, and Can’s move to Los Blancos could pave the way for Pochettino to bring him to North-London.

Zinedine Zidane’s squad is already highly saturated with talented central-midfielders such as Luke Modric, Toni Kross, Casemiro and Matteo Kovacic.

Ceballos has struggled for first-team opportunities since his summer transfer from La Liga rivals Real Betis, and the arrival of Can will further intensify the competition in central-midfield.

If Emre Can completes a dream switch to the Spanish capital, then Ceballos would surely become surplus to requirements and consequently be granted permission to embark on a new challenge at Tottenham.
