Lewis Holtby is one of  the most promising youngsters to come out of Germany in recent years and is proving himself more than good enough for the Bundesliga. With 3 goals and 3 assists in 8 games in the Bundesliga already this season and his involvement in Schalke's 2-0 win over Arsenal in the Champions League this week, Holtby is unsurprisingly attracting the attention of some of the bigger English Premier League clubs.

Arsenal and Liverpool are both rumoured to be interested in the youngster. Of the two clubs, Arsenal seem the more likely to tempt Hotlby due to Arsene Wenger's well-documented ability to develop young players' potential. Plus, (let's be honest) Arsenal are currently a much better side. Holtby could really learn a lot from the likes of Podolski, Arteta and Carzola. More importantly, I can't see Holtby opting for Europa League football with Liverpool over Champions League football with Arsenal.

In fact, the blue side of Liverpool look more likely to sign the player. Holtby's English father is an avid Everton fan and brought up Lewis to support the club as well. Everton were continuously linked with the player in the most recent summer transfer window and I can only see a move to The Toffees as a positive one for Holtby. His contract with Schalke concludes at the end of the 2012-13 season and if Everton were to gain a top-four place in the Premier League, it would be a no-brainer for both club and player to agree terms.

Not only would a move to Everton be a big step in Holtby's development but would also be a brilliant statement for David Moyes' ambitions at Everton. Quality youngsters with bags of potential are what Moyes and Everton do best. Adding Lewis Holtby to the squad list would only be a benefit to the club.

Buying a player like like Holtby could be just the signing Everton need to advertise a club that has been on the edge of greatness for so long now. Signing Holtby could encourage one or two other players of a similar ability to join the already stellar cast at Moyes' disposal (Fellaini, Jelavic, Baines, Peinaar, etc). A move for Holtby could have a defining knock-on effect for Everton and transform them into a much more formidable force, able to compete with the top teams in Europe.

One thing is for sure, Lewis Holtby has the opportunity for a very promising future.
