Ligue 1 giants open to selling Chelsea target this January

Gianelli ImbulaArsenal and Chelsea fans are getting tense in the Football Transfer Tavern with Marseille open to selling one of their young stars who is tipped to be the ‘new Patrick Vieira’.

According to The Express, Giannelli Imbula could make a move to England after Marseille became willing to agree a fee with either Premier League club.

The London giants have both been in for the Belgian-born French Under-21 international when he was at Guingamp but the defensive midfielder opted to stay in France and joined Marseille.

Chelsea have always been keen to replace John Obi Mikel and Imbula seems like the perfect replacement but they will face tough competition in the form of Arsenal for his signature.

The Gunners are also chasing after a defensive midfielder after lacklustre displays from Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini in the role so far this season.

Imbula played for a host of youth sides including US Argenteuil, Racing Club and Paris Saint-Germain before returning to Racing Club.

Guingamp snapped him up aged 15 and he made his debut for the Ligue 2 club at just 17-years-of-age.

He has made 31 league appearances for the Stade Velodrome giants scoring just one goal to date.

Chelsea fans. It always seems like John Obi Mikel is going to stay at Stamford Bridge forever but if he departed, would Imbula represent a good replacement? Let us know your thoughts below.
