Newcastle United fans in The Transfer Tavern are discussing reports that one of their out of favour players could be set for a January move away from the club, as they sink pint after pint in an attempt to forget about their weekend performance.
31-year-old Gouffran has seen appearances limited at St James Park, falling down the pecking order since Steve McClaren’s arrival at the club in the summer.
Gouffran was made available for transfer in the summer but turned down the opportunity to join both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic to fight for his place at Newcastle.
It is thought that the player would cost around £500,000 should Lille be looking to make the move permanent. He has made just one start for Newcastle this season and that came in the club’s 5-1 defeat against Manchester City a few weeks ago.
The Newcastle United fans in The Transfer Tavern are not overly concerned by the prospect of losing the midfielder, as they feel the club could use the money well to make the reinforcements required to survive in the Premier League this season.
Nevertheless, they believe their squad is wafer-thin so a tactic needs to be in place for the New Year.
