If these reports in Turkish outlet, Takvim are anything to go by, then a lot of Newcastle fans will be getting excited this summer. Apparently ex-Magpie and current Liverpool star, Georginio Wijnaldum could be on his way back to St James Park this summer as the Geordies battle it out with Fenerbahce for the Dutchman’s signature.

Wijnaldum spent just a year at Newcastle before the Geordies were relegated in the 2015/16 season when he moved to Anfield. In his solitary 12 months in the Northeast, the ex-PSV man scored an impressive 11 goals and registered five assists in his 40 appearances, holding a bizarre record of only scoring in home matches for the club. Now though, after two seasons away from St James Park he could be set for a spectacular return.
If Wijnaldum does up stakes and make the move back to play for Rafa Benitez then it would go a long way in sorting out their problems in finding the net. Last season the Magpies found the net just 38 times, on average scoring one goal per game. That would be different this season as the creativity and goals from midfield that Gini would bring would have the club scoring much more frequently and make them a much more threatening team that can start to challenge for a spot in the top eight in the Premier League more consistently.
With that in mind, here are the Newcastle fans’ thoughts on Twitter:
If's it true? Yep. In a heartbeat.

Would be a great signing for Rafa!

Winning one games keeps you up. Might as well sign a player who only scores home goals! Back in his favoured number 10 role at club that loves him why not

Just from the tweets above it seems clear that the fans would love to see Gini back in black and white this summer.
