The Metro have stunned us today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they have claimed that Liverpool could have taken a key step in keeping forward Luis Suarez at the club.
As we all know Arsene Wenger has been chasing the want a way forward for some time now and after making a rather cheeky bid of £40 million plus a single pound – something that Arsenal thought would have triggered the clause in Suarez’ contract and allowed them to speak with the player – Liverpool reacted in a furious manner. The club stood firm and noted that no where in the forward’s contract did it state that a bid of over £40 million would mean anyone could open talks with Suarez and more than that, Suarez was worth far more than that amount anyway.
It was believed that the player was willing to take the issue to an arbitration panel in order to allow talks with Arsenal to begin yet now it seems he has finally stood down and admitted he has no right to begin negotiations over a package to leave the club. This of course leaves Arsenal in somewhat of a tricky situation and given Wenger has put all his eggs in the Suarez basket it would be more than a little unfortunate if the player did not join the club now.
Not only this, but North London rivals Spurs are thought to have joined the chase for the player after realising Gareth Bale was set on leaving the club.
