The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to hold on to Philippe Coutinho this summer…
The Brazilian has been a key player for the Reds since he moved to the club, quickly emerging as one of Europe’s most inventive midfield players.
Particularly over the last year or so, he has become Liverpool’s talisman, and much like Luis Suarez before him, the team has been built around him as of late.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, though, there has been a lot of talk recently that the Brazilian could suffer a similar fate at Liverpool to Luis Suarez, with Barcelona said to be keen on a move for the player.
To make matters worse for the club, RAC1 are now reporting that Coutinho himself is keen on a move to the club this summer, with the Brazilian reportedly having held talks with Jurgen Klopp in which he revealed to the German his desire to leave the club.
Given that Barcelona are one of Europe’s biggest and most recognisable teams, this is no real surprise, and much like Luis Suarez, there appears to be a genuine possibility that the Reds may be forced to sell.
Fortunately, Liverpool hold all the power in this deal, given that Coutinho has a long contract at Anfield, but that doesn’t mean this isn’t a problem for Jurgen Klopp.
Coutinho clearly is open to a move to Spain, and it would not be wise to keep him against his will should the Spanish giants genuinely be keen on a move.
Sky Sports have reported that a move could be in the range of £70-90 million, which by any estimation is a lot of money. He’s one of Europe’s best, and he’s easily Liverpool’s best player – but if they sold him for that much money, they could easily sign a couple of players to improve their side ahead of next season.
It’s a tough one for Liverpool, but our landlord thinks that a sale could be forthcoming, particularly with this latest revelation.
