Mail Online‘s Dominic King reports that Daniel Agger’s representative has made clear the Danish centre back would be open for a transfer to Barcelona if the Reds can agree a fee with the La Liga champions.
Despite the Anfield club denying speculation that an offer had been received from the Camp Nou, King suggests that the Spanish side have made a £15 million offer as they look for a long-term replacement for legendary defender Carles Puyol.
Brendan Rodgers is desperate to keep hold of his star defender but with Barca losing out in their pursuit for Chelsea’s Brazilian defender David Luiz, who is expected to stay at Stamford Bridge this summer, an improved offer may be on the cards for the significantly cheaper Denmark star.
Agger only agreed a new contract at Anfield last season but his agent, Per Steffensen said: “We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected.
“Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for the next three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.”
The news adds to what has become a very busy day for Liverpool punters in the bar after the club were today linked with a £5 million move for Granada left back Guilherme Siquiera. Meanwhile, a departure is also expected with winger Stewart Downing set to arrive at West Ham United for a medical ahead of his transfer away from Anfield.
Will Liverpool hang onto Agger despite Barcelona’s interest? Let us know your thoughts below.
