There are more than a couple of pleased faces here at the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by the Daily Post that Steven Gerrard is about to pen a new deal at Anfield.
The midfielder is the club skipper and quite frankly a legend and despite not quite being the player he was in his prime, Liverpool are keen to honour him and make sure that a new deal is in place.
In the exact opposite of the Frank Lampard situation at Chelsea, Brendan Rodgers and the board are determined to make clear how much Gerrard means to them and keep the England skipper at the club until the end of his playing days.
Northern Irishman Rodgers claimed that: “He is very deserving of it (a new contract). He is a really humble man, always putting the club first. We spoke earlier on in the season and wanted to make sure we were progressing and improving.
“That’s the mark of the man. There are players who have two or even three years left on their contract and they want to know what’s happening next.
“Stevie has just got his head down, worked hard, stayed fit, and he’s certainly one I would envisage to be here for a good few years yet.”
