Sunderland fans are getting the beers in here in the Football Transfer Tavern, after BBC Sport reported the club have agreed a £14 million deal with Liverpool for the transfer of Fabio Borini.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light and became an instant fans favourite.
The Italian fired 10 goals over the course of the season and played a huge role in the clubs’ dramatic escape from relegation.
He was rewarded for his performances with the club’ young player of the year award.
Borini became Brendan Rodgers first signing at Liverpool, arriving in the summer of 2012 for £10 million from Roma.
However, Borini endured an injury-hit debut campaign at Anfield, and managed just a solitary Premier League strike in the 6-0 win over Newcastle United, in April 2013.
If the deal is completed, Borini will become the Black Cats’ fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Billy Jones, Jordi Gomez, and Costel Pantilimon.
Liverpool fans. Are you disappointed to see Borini go? Should he have been given another chance to shine at Anfield after his positive performances for Sunderland last season? Let us know your thoughts below.
