Liverpool fans are looking outraged here in the Football Transfer Tavern as The Telegraph report that Raheem Sterling has REJECTED a new deal with the club.
Now as some of our regulars note, we thought that the rejection of the deal could be related to Liverpool’s misfortunes this season but it turns out that the 20-year-old in unhappy with the figure on offer – £70,000-a-week – and wants to hold out for more.
The England international also has serious concerns over the future of the club after their disappointing Champions League group stage exit this week and is reportedly ‘nowhere near a deal’ at this stage.
We note that he will not exactly be short of offers with Real Madrid tracking the Reds star with Los Blancos looking like they could prepare an offer in the near future according to some publications.
However, the majority of our regulars think that Sterling will be staying at Liverpool for at least the foreseeable future.
Keeping younger talents at the club is vital but another point our regulars make over a couple of pints is that clubs do have to be fairly careful about how much money they offer younger professionals.
Especially ones as young as Sterling in order to avoid setting a precedent of a player receiving too much, too soon and believing they’ve already made it.
