The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Jurgen Klopp to bring in a few players this January. They’ve started the month off very well by signing Virgil van Dijk, but they’re some way off Pep Guardiola’s Man City in the Premier League – and so improvement is still needed.
Much of the focus at Anfield it seems, though, is firmly placed on the future of Philippe Coutinho, as Yahoo Sport reports. According to Yahoo Sport, Liverpool and Barcelona are set for talks regarding the future of the Brazilian, with a move in January still – seemingly – not out of the question.
Significantly, though, Liverpool are said to have been working to identify a number of ‘high profile’ players that could replace the Brazilian should he leave, with work behind the scenes clearly ongoing at Anfield.
Clearly, then, Liverpool won’t want to sell Coutinho for anything less than a massively inflated price, but their stance appears to be changing with regards to the prospect of an actual sale.
Given that they are looking at alternatives, it seems the prospect of a sale is steadily increasing. Still, it’s wise for Liverpool to prepare for the worst case scenario anyway, and so this should give Liverpool fans confidence despite the obvious negative implications of a sale.
The sale of Coutinho is beginning to look inevitable.
It remains to be seen when it will happen, be it this month or in the summer, but it seems unlikely that the Brazilian will see out of his contract at Anfield.
Liverpool, then, need to prepare for that – given that it is quickly looking like an inevitability – and so this is good news in that regard.
