The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait for Naby Keita to join the next summer…
A deal is in place for the midfielder to link up with the Reds at the end of the current season in a move that is sure to delight the fans in the pub when it does finally come around.
There’s a clear need for a player of Keita’s quality in the midfield, with Klopp’s team lacking determination and commitment in the middle of the park at present.
This is, seemingly, something that is concerning the club, and it appears as though it could have an impact on the Keita deal – particularly if Klopp gets his way. According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are ‘almost certain’ to attempt to bring Keita in ahead of time in January, as Jurgen Klopp looks to build a sustained title challenge.
Significantly, though, the German could have a problem – with an agreement reportedly ‘unlikely’ to be reached.
It’s no real surprise that RB Leipzig won’t be keen to move him on, as he is so important to their team. A regular in the midfield, he is the link between the defence and attack at the club, and so replacing him isn’t as simple as just signing a new player.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, that could mean that they fall short in their goals this term.
Keita is going to improve Liverpool’s team so much. He will help to command the midfield, and alongside players like Gigi Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson, he’ll help to balance out the side.
Significantly, if he were to join ahead of time, he would be unable to play for the Reds in Europe, given that he has already played for RB Leipzig, and that’s something to note.
It will be interesting to see how hard Liverpool push for a premature arrival, regardless of how unlikely it is.
