There are some rather excited faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Sun seem to think James Milner will hold off on signing a new contract with Manchester City until the summer.
That has put both Arsenal and Liverpool on red alert and given both are long term admirers of Milner, we can see they are so keen to monitor the situation and use this time to persuade the England international to run down his contract and leave the Etihad Stadium on a free.
City are desperate to offer their utility man a new deal and would be willing to pay handsomely to retain his services – but it is playing time Milner covets most and that is something City and manager Manuel Pellegrini cannot actually guarantee him.
Milner wants to make the final few seasons of his career ones that will see him play week in, week out – and if City are unable to be the club that provides that, he will leave and look for alternative options and is fully aware that both Liverpool and the Gunners could offer first team action.
Liverpool fans. Would you like to sign Milner on a free? Would that represent a pretty good bit of business? Let us know your thoughts below.
