Arsenal and Liverpool fans relaxing in the Transfer Tavern this afternoon, enjoying a friendly game of pool, are discussing claims from a midfielder who is interesting both of their beloved clubs.
Goal quotes Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka as heavily hinting towards a Premier League move, where Arsenal and Liverpool are both keen to bring him into and increase their squad depth.
The Swiss international has impressed with Gladbach in the past few years and could now be on the move, with a number of top-sides chasing his signature. Whilst Xhaka has stated he’d be interested in a transfer, he fired a warning to any potential suitors.
“Gladbach are a top club. But if I were someday to go to a top, top, top club, I want to play there. I’m not the type to be on the bench.”
Liverpool fans believe this makes them the prime club for his signature as he’d be a guaranteed starter, whilst at Arsenal he’d face competition from Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey for a starting spot.
Our landlord believes Liverpool’s downfall would be the lack of Champions League football though, as Xhaka is unlikely to give that up at Gladbach for a side that cannot match his ambitions.
