Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are a bit dejected today after their last-gasp defeat to Villarreal last night, and their Chelsea counterparts don’t have much to celebrate either, but life has been sparked into them following some news from the continent.
The Daily Star quotes Inter Milan ace Ivan Perisic as opening the door for the Premier League duo to make a swoop, despite the 27-year-old having only moved to the San Siro last summer.
Perisic joined Inter from Wolfsburg just under a year ago for a £12.5m fee but with the Italian giants looking set to miss out on Champions League football, the Croatian international has been linked with a move to England.
Now, Perisic himself has opened the door for a potential transfer as he dubbed Inter as merely a stepping-stone for his career.
“Inter is a big step in my career. They’re a big club and I’ll do my best to perform well here. I really like Italy and Inter. When I was a kid I used to watch several leagues and I knew the names of all the greats that have played for this club. Italy is a gorgeous country and I really like it.”
“I’ve got a five-year contract and I’m coming to the end of the first, which means I still have four to run. You never know in football though but if someone were interested they’d need to talk to Inter.”
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will know Perisic well from the duo’s time together in the Bundesliga but Chelsea’s incoming boss Antonio Conte is also tipped with a move for his signature.
Would Perisic be a good recruit for either of these sides? Let us know in the comments below!
