Liverpool and Manchester City supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week, what with the Reds having moved back to fourth in the Premier League table, while the Citizens maintained their eight-point lead over neighbours Manchester United at the summit with another victory.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were in fine form heading into their clash with Brighton on Saturday, and produced another attacking masterclass to sweep aside the Seagulls 5-1 at the AMEX Stadium, with a brace from Roberto Firmino inspiring them to an eighth victory of the campaign, and indeed to fourth place in the division. While things continue to get better and better for Pep Guardiola’s City, who made it 13 Premier League wins on the spin by beating West Ham 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with second half goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva completing the turnaround after Angelo Ogbonna gave the visitors a half time lead.
Consequently, both sets of supporters have been particularly buoyant in the Tavern this week, and they may be further encouraged by a recent report from The Daily Mail, which outlines the Premier League duo’s interest in Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, who himself is reportedly keen on a move to England.
The 26-year-old made the move to the French outfit back in 2015 and has since proven his worth with 11 goals and 19 assists in 97 games for the club, seven goals and nine assists of which came in Ligue 1 last term in their incredible rise to third place in the division.
And it appears that his excellent exploits in the Nice midfield has attracted interest across the Channel, with reports suggesting that Liverpool and Man City are eyeing up ‘big money’ moves for the Ivory Coast international, albeit reportedly face competition from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Thus, it very much remains to be seen whether either of the Premier League duo are able to lure the influential ace to their club in January, but the fact that Seri reportedly wants a move to England could give them an advantage in pursuit of his signature.
Landlord’s verdict: Jean Michael Seri played a key role in helping Nice finish third in Ligue 1 last term, thus seeing them earn the right to play in the third qualifying round of the Champions League this season.
The 26-year-old bagged seven goals and laid on nine assists to underline his significance to Lucien Favre’s side, and it’s form which has also got several top European clubs keeping tabs on his progress.
And two of those are Liverpool and Manchester City, with the former possibly looking at replacements for Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho, while the latter seek to bolster their ranks to challenge for honours both domestically and in European in the second half of the campaign.
However, Barcelona are also thought to be keeping tabs on Seri, so both English sides look set to face a fight to land the hugely talented Ivorian in the coming transfer windows.
