There is disappointment here on the faces of Liverpool and Manchester United fans here at the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by GiveMeFootball that one of the duo’s top transfer targets, Jackson Martinez is set to pen a new deal at Porto.
The Colombian international forward has been impressive this term and is set to be rewarded with a mega bucks new deal by the club despite the interest from abroad according to Portuguese publication A Bola. Both United and Liverpool have considered making a move for the player who in his first season with Porto has netted 28 goals in only 36 games.
It is expected that the improved contract will certainly contain a massive buy out clause which will of course make it massively expensive for either of the Premier League clubs to net the player in the near future.
United do not have any major concerns in their striking department yet it is always nice to add new blood. Liverpool meanwhile will be more affected by the blow given that the club are sweating over the future of Luis Suarez and despite signing Daniel Sturridge in the January transfer window, the Reds would ideally like another forward to help propel them up the table and back to where they feel they belong
Would Martinez have been welcome at United or Liverpool? Let us know your thoughts below.
