Liverpool and Tottenham supporters have been in contrasting moods in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend, what with the former easing past Southampton 3-0 at Anfield while the latter went down 2-0 to Arsenal in the North London derby.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds won their last three games prior to the international break, and picked up where they left off on Saturday with a brace from Mohamed Salah as well as Philippe Coutinho strike securing a comfortable 3-0 success over uninspiring Southampton. Yet earlier in the day Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs were beaten by bitter rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, with first half goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez sealing a deserved 2-0 victory for the Gunners, in turn moving them to within a point of their North London rivals in the Premier League table.
Thus, there have been differing emotions among both sets of supporters in the Tavern this weekend, but both are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Mirror, which details that they are set to go head to head in the battle to land Sheffield United starlet David Brooks.
The 20-year-old only made his senior debut for the Blades back in August 2016 in an EFL Trophy clash against Leicester City Under-23s, yet has since gone from strength to strength with 20 further appearances for Chris Wilder’s side, in which time he has scored once and laid on five assists.
And with 17 appearances coming this term in their run to second place in the Championship, the Wales international continues to make huge strides at Bramall Lane, and as such he is reportedly attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in the country, namely Liverpool and Tottenham.
Brooks agreed a new four-year deal with Sheffield United earlier this term to give the second tier outfit a strong hand in negotiations, but with the money on offer in the Premier League as well as the chance to move to an English heavyweight, the Blades may face a huge battle to keep their midfield sensation.
Landlord’s verdict: David Brooks has been making great strides at Sheffield United in the last 12 months or so, and looks set for a huge future in the game.
The 20-year-old has played a part in helping Chris Wilder’s side to second place in the Championship table, while the midfielder also earned his senior Wales debut against France last week, before producing a fine display in their 1-1 draw with Panana six days ago.
And his efforts have reportedly attracted the attention of Liverpool and Tottenham, both of whom must clearly see the youngster as a key player for their respective sides in the future.
And with Mauricio Pochettino’s record for giving young players a chance particularly strong, Brooks may well be swayed by the Premier League interest in the coming transfer windows.
