It must be Ben Jefferson’s day off today from The Express as he’s once again back in the Football Transfer Tavern.
This time he brings news that Sporting Lisbon will sell Spanish winger Diego Capel in January but only at their £6 million valuation of the player.
He explains to interested punters that Sporting are ready to let Capel depart during the upcoming transfer widnow as interest builds from Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham for the 25-year-old in the next few weeks.
The Spanish international is one of the highest paid players at the club and a move could suit both the cash strapped club, who are trying to get his wages off the pay roll, and the player who is seeking a switch to a higher profile league.
But the Portuguese outfit will only sell the former Sevilla star for £6 million as one punter quips that that is is unlikely to put off suitors from the Premier League.
Jefferson insists to Reds fans sat around the snooker table that Liverpool are the front runners for Capel and Brendan Rodgers’ side reportedly saw a £3 million bid rejected during the summer transfer window but other English teams are also showing interest in the exciting wide man.
Both North London club’s are keeping tabs on Capel and all the rumoured teams are very capable of meeting the reported asking price as Sporting look to sacrifice their star man in January.
Will Capel be winging his way to the Premier League this January, and with who? Let us know your thoughts below.
