Liverpool could be at risk of losing defender Joe Gomez, with the former Charlton Athletic man concerned about his lack of game time this term.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has opted to go with Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk at centre-back for much of the campaign with the experienced pair both doing little wrong.
However, this has not stopped Gomez from becoming frustrated with the club and according to 90min.com, he is now actively considering his future with the club if things don’t start to pick up for him.
According to the report, both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur would be interested in bringing the 22-year-old to their clubs if he does decide to leave Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp, however, will be keen to keep hold of Gomez. His ability to slot in across the entire back four make him a valued commodity within the Reds squad and the manager will no doubt call on him at some point during the season.
Indeed, last year was a success for Gomez. He made 12 starts in the Premier League and a further five in the Champions League as he helped his team to win the trophy for the sixth time.
The 22-year-old will no doubt be seeking some assurances from Klopp in the coming weeks about his future with the club.
You can understand Gomez’s frustration but what is Klopp meant to do here?
Liverpool have the best defensive record in the Premier League, so he’s not going to be delving into the squad to simply drop one of Matip or Van Dijk for the sake of it.
Gomez knows his role with the team. Unfortunately for him, if he can’t accept that, then he’s going to have to look at moving on and risk giving up a plethora of success in the coming seasons with the Reds to facilitate the possibility of playing regular first-team football.
