The speculation comes from The Express who finally confirm that Liverpool have won the race to sign Derby County starlet Will Hughes after agreeing a £12 million fee with the Championship club.
The 18-year-old midfielder is a long-term target for Brendan Rodgers and according to the latest reports, he has now fended off competition from Manchester United and Arsenal to sign the England Under-21 international.
Hughes only emerged at Pride Park in 2011 as a 16-year-old but he already made 59 appearances for the Rams.
The paper suggests that he will now make the switch to Anfield after the Reds clinched a £12 million deal with Derby County.
This could come as something of a blow to both David Moyes and Arsene Wenger who were also reportedly lining up moves for the highly regarded English starlet, who has netted four times this season.
The teen sensation is one of the finest young English players and to reportedly secure the services of the highly sought after midfield man, this news has been met with great approval from Reds fans sat around the bar.
Hughes has already been outlined as a long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard at Anfield as the club continues its policy of signing the best young talent from around Europe.
Here in the tavern, we now await confirmation from both clubs with champagne remaining firmly on ice until then.
