This is after BBC Sport claim that the club have admitted there was indeed a buy out clause in Luis Suarez’ contract of £40 million – but ignored Arsenal’s infamous triggering of this price tag.
The Reds are flying high in the Premier League and look set to make at least the top four – if not challenging for the title this term – and Luis Suarez has been key in that.
The Uruguayan forward was of course subject of a £40 million bid from Arsenal in the summer, who were told exactly where to go, and Suarez has since signed a new deal at Liverpool – with a reported larger buyout clause.
Liverpool owner John W. Henry was asked about the buy out clause and noted: “Arsenal offered £40m and one pound for him and triggered his buy-out clause.
“Since apparently these contracts don’t seem to hold, we took the position we’re just not selling.”
This was of course brilliant news for Reds fans in the tavern.
As one punter points out, even if the likes of Real Madrid were to meet the new release clause in the contract Suarez currently has, Liverpool may well again refuse to entertain the bid.
