Liverpool blow as return of fan-favourite ruled out

AlonsoLiverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking gloomy as they sip on their pints of bitter this afternoon, after it was revealed a fan-favourite would not be returning to Merseyside.

Talksport claims that Liverpool are keen on bringing Spanish international Xabi Alonso back to the Premier League but it’s now confirmed that the veteran intends to stay put at Bayern Munich.

The 34-year-old is entering the final six months of his contract in Bavaria and has seen competition for first-team football increase this season following the arrival of Arturo Vidal in the summer.

However, Bayern’s chief-executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has rubbished reports that the veteran could leave the Allianz Arena as he told Bild:

“Recently I had a talk with Xabi. He feels very good at Bayern Munich and in the city of Munich too. He signalled to me he is interested in staying with Bayern. Rumours he would plan to leave are wrong.”

Whilst many in the bar, still quietly sipping a way at our local brew, believe that this is a major blow for Liverpool, more upbeat supporters state that there is better options out there anyway.
