Liverpool board blocked move for highly-rated defender

Ashley WilliamsLiverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been locked in debate ever since yesterday evening, when we decided to do a lock-in as the supporters of the Reds wouldn’t stop arguing with their views on Brendan Rodgers.

We returned at the crack of dawn this morning to see another topic on the agenda, as fans discussed a remarkable story from Wales Online; which stated Brendan Rodgers wanted to sign Swansea City captain Ashley Williams, only to see a move blocked.

According to those reports, Rodgers was generally not allowed to sign players over the age of 24– which cost him a move for the Welsh captain, who is 31.

Williams, established as one of the best defenders in English football, was a regular issue between board and former manager Rodgers, with it added that the Northern Irishman was not happy with the defensive signings his board did make.

Our regulars declare this must mean Dejan Lovren, as one man looking rather groggy stated a fridge-freezer would be more commanding at the heart of the Reds defence.

Liverpool fans, were your board wrong to not approve a move for Ashley Williams? Would he get into your team? Let us know in the comments below!
